A Day in the Life on Safari at Enkishui Safari Camp

There is a moment in the mornings, just before sunrise, when everything is still. The air is still cool, the sky slowly turns a soft pink, and somewhere in the distance you can hear lions calling.

Days on safari at Enkishui Safari Camp don't normally follow a strict plan, but rather unfold naturally, shaped by what the bush gives us, and maybe a bit of luck.

The Wake Up Call

Your day starts slowly. With a gentle wake-up call and a quick shower if you wish, your coffee and tea will be ready and waiting for you at the campfire. The bush around you is waking up with you, the sky starts to lighten, and you can hear the birds' dawn chorus.

There will be a light breakfast around the fire before you head out. Fresh fruit, something warm, and maybe a rusk or even two! Your guides will go through the plan for the day, but it is all flexible, and no two safaris are ever the same.

Morning Safari Drive

As the sun rises, the bush starts to come alive. It is hands down one of the best times to be out on safari as the predators are still moving around and everything feels a little more active.

The safari drives at Enkishui Safari Camp explore the Mara Triangle and are not rushed, you spend time at sightings, watching animal behaviour, and not just ticking animals off a list.

Sometimes the best moments are the quiet ones. The engine is off, and you are just listening to the birds, the wind, or any distant calls.

A breakfast and coffee stop somewhere in the bush is a must and part of the experience. It is something simple, but somehow, always memorable.

Late Morning Back at Camp

By late morning, after your breakfast in the bush, things start to slow down, and you will head back to camp.

At camp, it is all up to you! Some people will head back to their tents to relax, others will sit around and share stories, or go through their photos of the morning. There is no pressure in doing anything, really! That is all part of it.

Safari is not just about being busy the whole time, it is also about slowing down

An Easy Afternoon

The middle of the day is quiet, for both people and wildlife. This is a good time to rest, read, or just sit and take it all in.

Before you head out on safari again, a light lunch will be served. Something small to keep you fueled on your afternoon safari, before coming back for dinner.

Late Afternoon Safari Drive

Heading out again in the afternoon feels completely different to the morning safari. The light softens again, the colours warm up, and the bush starts coming back to life after a hot day.

This is when things start to get interesting again. Maybe a leopard starts moving, elephants head down to the water, or spend the golden hour with a pride of lions.

If there is time for a stop, and you are not enjoying an incredible sighting, you will find a spot for your sundowners. Once again, so simple, but it never gets old.

Evening Around the Fire

Back at camp after dark, everything changes. The pathways are lit up by lanterns, the campfire is going, and the sounds of the night feel closer.

While dinner is served, you are enjoying a good glass of wine and good conversation. Guides will share their stories, and guests can do the same, and it all just flows.

After dinner, everyone goes their own way again, whether it is sitting around the campfire watching the stars, or listening to the Masaai stories, or heading back to your tent for some quiet time before you repeat the day again.

What It's Really About

A day at Enkishui Safari Camp is not about trying to see everything in one day. It is about experiencing what the Mara has to offer. To take your time, to notice even the little things, and let the bush set your pace.

Every day in the bush is different, and that is the best part. You never know what is coming next!

And after every long day, you fall asleep to the sounds of the bush, the hippos snorting in the river down below. That is something that will stay with you long after you have left.
